Job Overview

As the Sommelier, you will be reporting to the Asst. Head Sommelier and/or Senior Sommelier and work alongside them to ensure professional, efficient, and accurate service of all types of wine in order to exceed guests’ expectations during their experience.

You must be knowledgeable about all that Gattopardo Restaurant has to offer while specializing in wine service.

Your main goal is to create amazing memories for our guests while highlighting all wine preferences we have in hand.

 

Core Responsibilities

  • To follow and ensure that the opening and closing wine department checklists are being respected and adhered.
  • To pamper our patrons and guest and converse with them and be able to entertain them with a pleasing conversation.
  • To maintain an attentive and initiative-taking approach when it comes to offer a second round and ascertain satisfaction with the product already served.
  • To make sure that company policy regarding drinking age is followed and that the service of alcoholic beverages to obviously intoxicated guests is stopped in a tactful and appropriate manner.
  • To retain service standards in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • To continually seek ways to improve the quality of hospitality and service provided to our guests.
  • To follow all company safety and security policies and procedures, report accidents, injuries, and unsafe work conditions to a manager.
  • To go over the wine list before the service starts with the front of the house staff.
  • To also be able to answer questions or concerns regarding the origin, vintage, and style of various wine.
  • To maintain display units and cellars in pristine condition according to company policy.
  • To ensure that all beverages are served at the correct temperature.
  • To provide a courteous, professional, attentive, and efficient service always with all departments and customers.
  • To well establish a good rapport and working relationship with all staff and all other departments.
  • To know how to also read and understand the guest’s needs and limits to offer the best ability on assisting guest wine preferences.

To assist on ensuring that the wine cellar is fully stocked.

  • To also assist on monitoring the effectiveness of the wine list in terms of customer satisfaction and adjusting where necessary.

 

Departmental/Operational Responsibilities

  • To assist the Head Sommelier, Assistant Head Sommelier and Senior Sommelier in achieving the department targets.
  • To stay aware of the competition and contemporary trends on the market. Added information should always be discussed and shared with the team.
  • To also conduct periodic inventories along with the Assistant Head Sommelier to prepare the orders to replenish par stocks.
  • To assist on controlling and analysing the quality of the wines on offer and of the wine cellar in general.
  • To ensure on looking after the wine cellar daily, ensuring it is clean and checking the inventory.
  • To always act and perform accordingly to Gattopardo Restaurant standards.
  • To also provide perfect wine and food recommendations that complement their experience and have superior knowledge of all beverages.
  • To ensure that wine stocks are always at PAR Level every operation on all wine sections before the start of every operation.
  • To be responsible for the recommendation and sales of wines to guests and ensure that they are satisfied appropriately.
  • To also ensure that the wine is served at the right temperature and in proper glassware.
  • To accordingly assist all departments in case it is not busy your section.

 

 

 

People Management

  • To understand the importance of teamwork and communication for the health of the establishment.
  • To assist on analysing and addressing any concerns to designated departments upon guest feedback to ensure that next guest visit is taken actions.
  • To perform any other reasonable duties and tasks assigned by department head or management.
  • To assist all other members and guests during every service with wine recommendations and selection for perfect pairing with their lunch/dinner, decanting of the wine and wine service.
  • To assist your head of department on developing the training program for all Team Members to improve their knowledge of wine tasting and wine service.
  •  To assist and train all waiters on Wine preferences to address guest’s e of any urgent wine requirements from guest while you are busy with other guests.

 

Communication

  • To ensure accurate follow up and communication both internally and to the guests.
  • To have great personality and be able to communicate with members and guests that might share various levels of wine knowledge and must be able to promote and grow the Wine Program
  • To attend departmental trainings and other operational trainings to enhance and polish all knowledge and skills.
  • To attend all operational briefings and ensure to share any feedback for the wine department if any.

 

Leadership

  • To ensure and be responsible for ordering, receiving, inventory, organizing and selling wine for all departments.
  • To always be confident and responsible for the daily wine requirements of all guests and solve any related issues accordingly and timely.
  • To lead as an example to all subordinates and guide them accordingly to ensure smooth sailing operations.
  • To maintain efficient communication with all the managers and other departments to facilitate smooth operation every day.
